CBT, or Cognitive Behavioural Therapy is an evidenced based therapy which means that a great deal of research has been conducted, proving its effectiveness on many areas of difficulties. The model is a mixture of cognitive and behavioral therapy which means that it can help you how your patterns of thinking and behaviour can influence how you experience different situations in life. The cognitive element looks specifically at how our thoughts can determine our feelings and emotions, and the behavioural therapy component examines the relationship between our behaviours and thoughts.
CBT is based on the theory that its not events and circumistances that can effect you negatively, but the meanings you attach to them based on what you have learned and your experiences.
As a senior Counselling Psychologist I am trained in different approaches which means I can combine CBT techniques with different psychotherapy and psychological approaches to ensure we can access the underlying cause of the problems whilst providing you with tools and techniques to overcome your presenting issues.
